How to obtain plates

After DGT registration, buy plates at an authorised workshop (€28–€40). The shop fits and seals them.

Damaged or lost plates

Report at any DGT office, present permiso de circulación, request a duplicate (€20.60 fee) and order new plates at an authorised workshop.

Cherished or personalised plates

Not generally allowed in Spain. Vehicle ownership can be transferred with the plate, but choosing a custom combination is not part of the system.
